Comparative Assessment of Fecal Contamination in Piped-to-Plot Communal Source and Point-of-Drinking Water

The aim of this study was to compare the water quality piped-to-plot source with point-of-drinking in households a low-income urban area Bangladesh. A total 430 and 78 communal sources connected these were selected from East Arichpur Dhaka. samples collected vessels (household members’ preferred drinking i.e., mug, glass, or bottle) linked at six-week intervals between September 2014 December 2015. Water processed using standard membrane filtration culture methods quantify E. coli. Analysis paired data on same day showed that fecal contamination increased 51% (626/1236) samples. Comparison bottles vs. other wide-mouth (i.e., glasses, mugs, jugs) significantly lower odds (p = 0.000, OR 0.58, (0.43–0.78)) compared vessels. findings suggest recontamination post-treatment point play significant role households. Hygiene education efforts future should target promotion narrow-mouth reduce contamination.
